Mack began his career with the United States Postal Service (USPS) in Chicago as a City Letter Carrier at the Kedzie-Grace Post Office in 1997. In 2001 he was elected as a union steward by his fellow letter carriers at the Chicago-Lawn Station on the Southwest side of Chicago. He was appointed Sgt.- At-Arms of Branch #11 of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) in 2005; and was then elected by acclamation as a Branch Auditor in 2006.
In 2008, Mack was appointed Regional Administrative Assistant (R.A.A.) working full-time for the national union in Springfield, Illinois. In the fall of 2009, Mack was elected as President of the local Branch #11/Chicago of the NALC. He was re-elected by the members in 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2021. Also, in 2018 he was appointed and re-elected as a Trustee for the NALC’s National union. At their biennial Convention, held in Chicago in 2022, Mack was elected by acclamation to his current position as the Assistant Secretary Treasurer and a resident Officer of the NALC in Washington, D.C.
During his tenure as President of the NALC’s Chicago local branch, Mack also served on Chicago Amalgamated Bank labor council, UIC Labor Advisory Board, Chicago Local advisory Board for United Way- Emergency Food and Shelter Programs (EFSP) and as Vice-President of the Chicago Chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute.
For the NALC, Mack is a trained Arbitration Advocate as well as an Intervention Specialist. As an Intervention Specialist, Mack worked jointly with the Postal Service on the local level in resolving workplace issues and improving the overall work experience for letter carriers.
On the national level, Mack is a current member of the Contract Administration Unit (CAU) that monitors contract compliance and interpretation. Mack continues to be a tireless advocate for the USPS and even more so for the safety of City Letter Carriers on the streets, as well as the workroom floor. Aside from his many fiduciary responsibilities as a financial officer, Mack is a leadership team member of the NALC Emergency Response Team (ERT); which assists in the training of letter carriers to respond to the emotional needs of members who are dealing with painful and traumatic situations. Since 2020, Mack has been an elected Vice President/Trustee on the board that oversees the operation of the National Association of Letter Carriers Retirement, Education, Security and Training estate (NALCREST), the highly successful affordable retirement village in Florida for city letter carriers.
Labor Background - In 2014, Mack was elected by acclamation to the Chicago Federation of Labor’s Executive Board and re-elected in May of 2018 and 2022. Also in 2018, Mack was elected to his current position on the National Executive Board of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU). He was re-elected in 2022 and in May of 2026 at their national convention.
Mack has an associate degree from Harold Washington College in Mental Health: Addiction Studies and has completed labor courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the National Labor College. Mack is a widowed father of six, and grandfather of three inquisitive and energetic grandsons. He resides in Westchester, Illinois with his two youngest daughters, Makayla and Mackenzie.
Mack is an active member of the Faith Community of St. Sabina in Chicago, and cites the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as an inspiration to his own personal journey. “I believe we are all called to serve. My work and advocacy in the labor movement are consistent with the core principles of my Christian faith and is a continuation of Dr. King’s fight for social justice and equality for everyone.” Aside from his membership in CBTU, Mack is an avid supporter of all the labor constituency groups, which includes membership in the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI), the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), the Latin Council for Latin American Advancement (LCAA), Pride at Work and the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA.)
On June 27th 2026 the Illinois State Associations (ISA) of Letter Carriers inducted Mack into the ISA hall of fame for his lifetime of dedication and work on behalf of City Letters.
