Brian Thompson for Region 12 NBA

Brian has dedicated his career to serving letter carriers and strengthening the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Beginning his postal service journey in 1989, he has spent more than three decades gaining firsthand experience in nearly every facet of city delivery and clerk operations. His deep understanding of the challenges faced by letter carriers—and his unwavering commitment to protecting their contractual rights—has shaped him into one of Region 12’s most trusted advocates.

Brian became a NALC union representative in 2004 and has since pursued every available training opportunity, building an unparalleled foundation of knowledge in grievance handling, arbitration, route evaluation, and labor-management relations. His leadership experience includes serving as Branch 22 Secretary/Treasurer, Executive Vice President, and President, as well as holding long-standing positions on the Pennsylvania State Association Executive Board.

In 2016, Brian joined the Region 12 office as a Regional Administrative Assistant, where he developed strong working relationships with union representatives and USPS management across multiple districts. These relationships helped him eliminate significant grievance backlogs and improve communication channels throughout the region.

Appointed National Business Agent in 2020, Brian guided Region 12 through the unprecedented challenges of the global pandemic. Under his leadership, the region doubled the number of representatives processing Dispute Resolution Process grievances, expanded the arbitration advocate team, increased the number of arbitrators on the panel, and improved the region’s arbitration winning percentage by 40%. He also strengthened political engagement, elevating Region 12 to second in the nation for Letter Carrier Political Fund participation.

Brian has prioritized education and training throughout his tenure. He created Region 12’s first Shop Steward Academy, expanded the annual Rap Session in Atlantic City to include more interactive and technology-driven classes, and significantly increased specialized training offerings—including OWCP, retirement, route inspections, Article 15, and LMOU negotiations. He also hosts monthly Webex meetings with Branch Presidents to ensure timely communication and collaborative problem-solving.

His commitment to the membership extends beyond training rooms and offices. Brian and his staff regularly travel to branch events, award ceremonies, retirements, and officer installations, reinforcing the unity and shared purpose of Region 12.

With extensive experience, proven leadership, and a strong record of results, Brian remains dedicated to mentoring new stewards, officers, Step B representatives, and arbitration advocates. His integrity, communication skills, and deep contractual knowledge continue to drive Region 12 forward. In the years ahead, he is committed to expanding training opportunities, strengthening branch support, and ensuring every member receives the representation they deserve.
