Manuel L Peralta Jr. (Manny) for Executive Vice President

Manny was hired into the USPS at Anaheim, CA in October of 1979.  He was trained and became a shop steward after probation and has been a union activist since the summer of 1980.

Manny was trained in EEO Complaints processing and has represented employees in their discrimination complaints since 1982, from the informal meeting process up to and including presentation of  complaints before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

In 1984 Manny began advocating NALC grievances before arbitrators, having presented 275 cases on behalf of letter carriers.

Manny served as a member of the Branch 1100 executive council from 1981 to 1990.  In 1984 Manny was elected as a Vice President of Branch 1100 and in February of 1989, Manny was elected as Executive Vice President of Branch 1100.

In December of 1990, President Vincent R. Sombrotto appointed Manny as a Regional Administrative Assistant (RAA) in NALC Region 1, serving California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.  In that era, RAA's were assigned to meet with the USPS at the third step of the grievance procedure (predecessor of the current grievance process), were responsible for arbitration scheduling and presentation of cases before Region 1 arbitrators.  They were also responsible for training shop stewards when their branch had no formal steward training program and many other duties as assigned.

Following the testing of the new grievance procedure (Informal Step A, Formal Step A and Step B process), Manny was assigned to help monitor the process to make sure that the agreements made by the national parties were honored.

In 2006, Manny was elected as National Business Agent of Region 1.  In 2010, he was elected as the NALC's Director of Safety and Health and continues to hold that position to this day.  Manny has served on the NALC's Contract Administration Unit (CAU) for 16 years.

Manny was taught the importance of teaching others what we do and how we do it and has applied that belief his whole career.  Training others to do the work we do simply makes our union stronger and our members more informed.

Manny's experience in all facets of the grievance procedure, training and managing the grievance procedure make him ready to tackle the problems that we are facing from the moment he takes office.
